Our story

It all started with a trip to Italy!

The seeds of Lucia Gelato were planted during three trips to Italy with my husband and a group of Whistler friends. On these adventures, we enjoyed numerous stops at gelato stands while travelling and mountain biking around the country.

These initial seeds fully bloomed on a trip to Australia shortly after our daughter, Lucy, was born. We stayed in the lovely town of Noosa for a month of surfing and playing and continuing our travel-tradition of regular visits to the gelato stand on the beach.

Enjoying this little ritual gave me a great idea to fill a void in the Whistler market. But where to start?? When I returned home I began to research not only how to start a small business, but how to even make a proper gelato! This led me back to Italy where I attended a gelato-making course in the food-epicenter of Bologna. 

Learning from the Italian masters has enabled me to make gelato and sorbetto in the “old fashioned artisan” manner using the freshest, most natural ingredients possible, with little or no compromises. Hopefully you can taste the difference!

Lucia Gelato has grown from experimenting with fun flavours in my kitchen, to a solid Whistler company that runs four summer booths and supplies quality gelato to restaurants, hotels and grocery stores along the Sea to Sky Corridor.
